Historical Roots of HTML
- As internet provides inter-connection between
multiple computers, it helps in communication.
- It means, transfer of data / files from one
computer to other connected computer.
- to share documents on internet, it is necessary
that, data in file must be properly structured.
- In 1980, Sir Tim Berners-Lee, a very famous
physicist suggested the concept of sharing data in
the form of documents on Internet.
- For this, Tim Berners-Lee introduced the concept
of HTML based on SGML (Standard Generalized
Markup Language)
- HTML stands for Hypertext Markup Language
which is used to design and develop a web page.
-Web page is file containing data to be displayed
in web browser.
- HTML consist of different elements or tags
which helps to design any web page.
The historical development of HTML can be given as:
1. HTML 1.0 - was released in 1993 helps in sharing information which can be readable in web browsers. But it is not popularly used for web site.
2. HTML 2.0 - published in 1995; which contains all the features of HTML 1.0 along with that few additional features for designing and creating websites.
3. HTML 3.0 - released in 1997, It came with many new features of HTML.
4. HTML 4.01 – released in 1998, which is widely used and was a successful version of HTML. In 1999, this version is extended as 4.01.
5. HTML 5.0 - currently used worldwide.
